News Release: Bio and Chemical Attack Shelters Being Built

biohazard shelters

KENNEWICK, Wash., Nov. 1  /PRNewswire/ -- A Northwest consortium, headed by the Apollo Group, has begun construction on their first modular emergency shelter that will protect occupants from a biological or chemical attack.

The shelters will protect against airborne bacteria such as anthrax, small pox and other such toxic agents. The shelters will be pressurized, highly insulated, and incorporate state-of-the-art air filtration and life support technology.

The modular buildings are designed to be self-contained for long durations. They can be portable or match the look of existing facilities without standing out as a single purpose building.

Apollo Group, with vast experience in high technology air handling systems, has assembled the consortium and will have the first unit ready for demonstration by December 1, 2001, with shelter production ready to begin by the middle of December.

Joining Apollo Group are Acsys Inc., which developed and has constructed all types of commercial and residential buildings using the panelized Acsys system, and Building Technologies Inc., a manufacturer of the modular buildings. All are Northwest companies.
